Understanding The Sticker

The sticker is in three parts:

  • The top layer is the application tape
  • The middle layer is the final product.
  • The bottom layer is the backing paper

Preparation

  • If your decal arrives in a mailing tube, it is recommended that you unroll the decal and let it lie flat, face down for at least an hour before application.
  • Check that the sticker fits in place. If necessary cut of any excess application tape & backing paper
  • Clean the surface thoroughly with glass cleaner and a dry lint free cloth.
  • Dirt and dust particles will cause vinyl lettering to bubble and not to adhere properly.
  • Ideally, the surface and air temperature should be above 10ºc.
  • After preparing the surface draw guidelines in the area you wish to apply your sticker. You can use a wax pencil, non permanent marker or masking tape.

Application for Flat Surfaces

  • With the sticker face down, carefully peel the backing paper away from it.
  • Place the sticker on the prepared surface, using your guidelines to position it correctly.
Firmly “squeegee” the sticker to force out any bubbles. A credit card will work.
If you don’t have a credit card use a heavy gauge piece of cardboard. Start in the center and work
towards the edges. Be sure you have gone over all areas.
  • Gently peel off the application tape, leaving the stickers in place.
  • Clean off your guidlines with glass cleaner and your finished.

Wet Application For Large Stickers Or Irregular Surfaces

  • Prepare application fluid: Mix 4 drops of dish washing detergent to 250ml of water in a spray bottle.
  • Clean the surface with glass cleaner and a dry lint free cloth.
  • Draw guidelines in the area you wish to apply your sticker. You can use a wax pencil, non permanent marker or masking tape.
  • With the sticker face down, carefully peel the backing paper away from it.
  • Spray the area to receive sticker with an ample amount of application fluid to prevent vinyl from sticking to surface.
  • Place the stickers on the prepared surface using your guidelines to position them correctly.
Stickers may be removed and repositioned as long as the surface stays wet. Firmly squeegee the
sticker to force the bubbles and fluid out. Start in the center and work
towards the edges. Be sure you have squeegeed out all the application fluid before attempting to remove the application tape.
  • Allow the lettering to dry for about an hour and gently peel the application tape away, keeping your hand firmly on the sticker to prevent pulling it back up.
  • Squeegee out any remaining bubbles and fluid. You may need to smooth it down one more time after leaving it to dry for a couple of hours.
  • Air bubbles will usually disappear after a few weeks, if not, you can use a pin to puncture the vinyl at the bottom of the bubble and squeeze out the air by pushing down with your thumb.
